It's that time of year where it is FINALLY starting to warm up a little! Yes, I am very excited for this. It means it will no longer take 25 minutes to dress for a run. It also means there is hope for future rides in the sun that is actually giving off heat. I have actually forgotten what that feels like. Another great thing about spring is digging out the race gear!
The first race of the season is coming up and I have yet to find some of my things from the last race of the season. As far as I know my wetsuit is somewhere within my tiny apartment. The good ole aero helmet is holding its place tucked away in the closet. The bike is sitting on the trainer hoping that it will soon be released from its tight grasp. Race flats are new and still in the box. Ok, so its not as bad as I thought but it seems like there is so much stuff you need to bring along to a race. Somehow the transition bag ends up over flowing and still feel like something is missing.
In my few years of racing I have learned to take a minimalist approach to what I bring to a race. It helps eliminate a lot of stress and keeps the transition area cleaner. Here is my basic list: Goggles, tri suit, wetsuit, bike, helmet, bike shoes, run shoes, nutrition and race belt. That is what gets everyone through the race. Everything else can either be borrowed from someone or is usually provided.
This years race gear is getting a little change with a recent partnership with Kyle's Bikes in Ankeny. I will be riding a new Jamis. Not sure if it is the T1 or T2 yet, but either way I am very excited and will write about it as soon as it gets in.
Train smart!
