This last weekend was my first 70.3. During and immediately following I had determined that it would most certainly be my last. After finding out that I had qualified and had been talked into doing it by Coach Liz and others it was only a few short hours before I was already signed up for my next one!
It was a great weekend filled with fun people and my favorite thing... racing!
Tami, Matt and I rented a van (soon to be called the Uplander- the biggest POS car EVER which Matt was determined to beat the crap out of) and we were off for a 7 hour drive on Thursday. After some sleeping and chatting about bikes, cars, and plenty of other things we could not afford we were there. Michigan is much cooler than Iowa right now.
The only eventful thing that happened during the race was waaaay overshooting my transition spot in T2. I had to do a nice jog across half the transition area to finally get back to my spot. I guess it has to happen sometime! I also got stung by something on my right arm in the first mile of the run. That was not much fun. I had images going through my head of my whole arm swelling up or something crazy like that happening. I guess that was just a nice distraction from the long freaking run I had ahead of me.
I ended up winning the race with a 4:06:59 and did not expect that at all. I had hoped for around a 4:20 or so with not really thinking about qualifying for Clearwater. Now the season gets extended a little and its time to plan for another trip!
This week is really relaxed as far as workouts which is nice. School is going to get started pretty soon and I'm for sure going to miss this summer.
More stuff to come.. maybe some pics from the race. Who know!
